A concrete topping is a fresh cement-based layer poured over a new or existing slab to create a level, decorative or polishable wear surface. Thicker than a micro-overlay, toppings include self-leveling toppings that flatten uneven floors and high-strength cementitious toppings that can be ground and polished.
The System
When a slab is worn, uneven or simply needs a fresh finished surface, a concrete topping delivers a brand-new wear layer bonded to the existing floor. We place self-leveling and decorative cementitious toppings — then colour, seal, or grind and polish them — to renew the floor without full replacement.
Why Concrete Toppings
Where It Works
Good to Know
A concrete topping is a fresh cement-based layer poured over an existing or new slab to create a level, decorative or polishable wear surface. It renews the floor without a full tear-out and replacement.
An overlay (or micro-topping) is very thin — about 1/16"–1/4" — and purely decorative. A topping is generally thicker, is often self-leveling, and can be structural or polishable. Toppings level and rebuild a wear surface; overlays resurface a sound one.
Yes. High-strength cementitious toppings are designed to be ground and polished, giving you a fresh polishable surface even when the original slab is too worn or soft to polish directly.
It varies with the product and purpose — self-leveling toppings are commonly 1/4" to 1" or more, while thin decorative overlays are a fraction of that. We spec the right system after assessing your slab.
